PALACE HOTEL
With a unique opportunity to expand the already thriving Palace Hotel, our client purchased the adjacent historic Pioneer Building. Tasked with creating seven hotel suites, we began by demolishing dropped ceilings to expose vaulted areas with 100+ year old ceiling joists. We uncovered long lost boarded up windows, replacing them with arch top replications. A beautiful multi-story staircase centered below the large central skylight was restored. The existing red brick walls, long neglected, were cleaned and restored to their natural beauty. With the original charm and character of the existing building in place, we complemented the spaces with locally fabricated steel stairways and catwalks leading to cozy loft spaces. Overlooking Water street in downtown Port Townsend to the bay beyond, this project was a testament to the successes of tasteful modernizing within a beautiful historic structure.
